Bible Study

Pasadena Community Church is a Bible-based congregation. Our sermons are based on scripture. We encourage all members and friends to find a study group that will help you grow in The Word. Newcomers are welcome in any group.

Faith Explorers Bible Study:

Meets Monday nights in LEC Room 2A from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The group is currently studying the Book of James with the Life Application Bible Study , through February 28, with a new study to follow. Lead by Barbara Wahking.

Sunday Countdown:

Meets Wednesday nights in LEC Room 3ABC from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Join Pastor Charley Reeb for a Wednesday preparation and discussion of biblical text and scriptural passages in relation to Charley’s upcoming Sunday sermon. Charleyr@pccumc.org

A Chronological Bible Study:

Meets Wednesday nights in LEC Room 2B from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This is an ongoing, interactive class that presents God’s story in the order the events actually occurred from creation to Revelation. Lead by Barbara Posey – barbarap@pccumc.org

Disciple Bible Study: The Book of Acts:

Meets Thursday mornings in LEC Conference Room A from 10:00-11:30 a.m. This is a traditional Bible study with lively discussion. Lead by Rev. Sidney Tompkins – Sidneyt@pccumc.org

Q. Does The United Methodist Church designate an “official” version of the Bible?

A. The United Methodist Church does not have an “official” version or translation of the Bible. Only the General Conference can designate specific ritual texts or other liturgical or teaching resources as official. Rather, United Methodists affirm the usefulness of a number of translations and versions as being helpful for study, teaching, memorization and other purposes, since each sheds a slightly different light in translating or paraphrasing the original languages and manuscripts. When it comes to United Methodist teaching resources published by The United Methodist Publishing House, the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) is the text endorsed by the General Board of Discipleship for curriculum. Curriculum writers, however, can consult other versions or quote from them when doing so strengthens the teaching resource.

“Which Bible Translation is Right for Me?” describes the various versions of the Bible and the types of differences between translations.
