Faith Journeys

Faith Journeys

Faith Journeys are, in many ways, the oral history of our church and the remarkable people in it. We are interviewing people about their lives and how their faith has shaped who they became. We have posted almost two dozen Faith Journey interviews so far.

The Faith Journey of Roger and Theresa Hendricks, a PCC leader and teacher who along with his wife Theresa have been members of PCC for years. They raised their children at PCC and now share their faith with young adults. They found PCC after they had children and wanted to raise them in a Christian environment.

The Faith Journey of Stu Leach Today he is living with a serious illness but this former police officer has a solid foundation of faith who makes it his business to witness to others at every opportunity. Where did the faith come from? hear his story.

The Faith Journey of Dawn Atkinson
She met Jesus when she was a young child. Her faith faded when she moved out to go to college, but found her faith again. Hear how it happened and how her children and family influenced her decisions.

The Faith Journey of Rick Hilber.
This PCC member’s story changed when he was riding his bike home.  He suffered a tragedy and found faith.

Faith Journey by Rose Oeschger, one of the most beloved members of the PCC family

Rose is considered by man to be a mother of the church. She works in the church office, recruits, welcomes and teaches new members, she is an usher, Bible teacher mentor and friend. She often takes Holy Communion to shut-ins and church members and friends living in nursing homes. She is a woman of deep faith and scriptural knowledge. Listen to her journey that shaped her faith.

The Faith Journey of Walter Turner

Walter Turner is one of our newest members and now one of our most active members. He joined PCC in 2011 after arising from bed one morning at 4:30, walking to church and pulled by what he said was a powerful spiritual force. Within weeks of joining, Walter was a church usher. He was the first person to turn in his 2012 pledge card for financial giving. As Pastor Charley once said, Lord give me 300 Walters and this church can do anything.” Listen to the power story that shaped Walter’s faith.

Faith Journey by Kirsten Jones is the Youth Minister at PCC.

Her faith story is the story of a pastor’s kid who had to find her own understanding of faith that now shapes the young people of our church.  She considers her minister to be a “calling.”  What does that mean to her and how do you know what you are called to do?  You will listen to the story and say “we sure are fortunate to have a person like this guiding our kids.”

Faith Journey : Robb Bauman

Robb Bauman has served in many leadership positions at PCC. He learned the power and value of giving "prayer, presence, gifts and service" at a young age and, he says, it guides him even today. Why is it so important to give even when you are busy, pressed for cash and have all of the stresses of life weighing on you? Listen to Robb's story.

Jacki Francis is known, to many of you as one of our PCC Parish Nurses.  On August 31, 2011, she shared her faith journey story with interviewer Virginia Spencer.  Jacki explains what she considers to be a miracle in her life and what lead up to it.

There are few members who have touched more lives than Buddy Black.  You may know him as a friendly usher, the husband of Mamie Lee Black.  He has led dozens of groups to the Holy Land.  But one of his most important works has been the more than 10 years in which he served as a pastoral care provider at hospitals and hospice.  In this Faith Journey interview, Buddy explains how the visitation ministry found him and how it changed his life when he said yes to it.  The story begins when the hospital administrator at The Palms of Pasadena Hospital asked Buddy to become a pastoral counselor.  Black hesitated..thinking he was unworthy..then the story unfolds.

Mamie Lee Black is a solid woman of faith.  But when she and Buddy faced health challenges recently, they had to make tough choices about whether to leave St Pete and move to Tampa, closer to family support. It would mean leaving PCC, it would mean selling their condo in a tough housing market.  Then she had a chance encounter with a person in a parking lot–and that changed everything.  She says it was God in control. Listen to this remarkable story.

PCC member Fran Hoffman’s Faith Journey story begins in an airplane, high above the freezing Atlantic Ocean during World War II.  Her life and that of her young son hung in the balance as she says God rescued her. Listen to her story of faith and courage.

There are few PCC members who are more involved in important church projects than Spencer Bowen. He is always there with a helping hand and a word of encouragement.  But this man of God didn’t come by his faith easily.  It was a tough road that he is willing to share to help others facing dark times.  Listen to Spencer’s Faith Journey story.

Doc Seversen is often one of the first people that new visitors meet when they come to Pasadena Community Church. He is outgoing and fast with a handshake.  But behind the smiling face and friendly greeting is a difficult story that includes a prison term and, thankfully a mentor who helped a young Doc find his way out of alcoholism.  His is a story of a long road out of darkness.
